Yearly Teacher Checklist

  • Read over school handbook
  • Review school protocols for child abuse, sexual harassment, blood-borne pathogens, anaphylaxis, etc.
  • Update personal contact info (if required)
  • Completed Reclaiming Hope on ALC
  • Completed Encounter training if teaching Bible
  • Note the scheduled staff meetings, school-sponsored annual events for the year
  • Review Report Card timelines and templates
  • Decorate bulletin boards colorfully and currently (with at least one Christ centered picture) decorate walls (primary) with Number/color charts, alphabets displayed, marking notations posted, create centers for reading, writing, math, socials, science, etc.
  • Display Fire Drill Exit and lockdown procedures
  • Send communication to all parents to kick off the year
  • Finalize teaching timetable and submit to office and post in clear view.
  • Submit field trip requests for the year to the office
  • Order or purchase required learning supplies
  • Review class list
  • Read through student IEPs and begin to prepare draft IEP documents for students with designations and others who you anticipate will need supports
  • Create your first week of lesson plans and prepare First Day Handouts regarding classroom management style, grading system used and any other special information relating to your expectations for the school year that can assist students and parents.
  • Lesson planning (ongoing) must be 1) consistent with long-range plans and 2) sufficiently detailed (dated, objectives, procedures, activities, assessments,  resources, Core Competencies, FFLP, etc.)
  • Prepare a folder with substitute teacher information (include: class lists, timetables, seating plans, lesson plans, emergency procedures, contact information, etc.)
  • Complete your Teacher Professional Growth Plan
  • Long-Range Plans must be 1) consistent with Ministry Guidelines and/or NAD Guidelines, and contain a subject description, time allotments for each unit of study, general course objectives and distinctive SDA objectives identified, timeline, student activities, resources, method of evaluation, etc.
  • Collect student textbooks and workbooks
  • Sumit textbook and other resource orders to office
  • Clean classroom
  • Submit names of outstanding student textbooks to office
  • Update student cum folders for your homeroom class.
  • Send communication to all parents to end the year
  • Complete and submit an inventory for all parts classrooms; textbooks, supplies, assets, equipment.
  • Submit keys (if leaving)
  • Return all AV equipment where required
  • Submit requested repairs to office
